About Cambridge EduX Hackathon 2025

Cambridge EduX Hackathon 2025 is a 7-day innovation sprint co-hosted by Cambridge EdTech Society and Cambridge Asia Forum, supported by In³.

Unlike typical hackathons, EduX focuses on academic-driven creativity, educational integrity, and real-world impact, bridging ideas from research, pedagogy, and technology to reimagine the future of education.

This edition attracted over 220 registered participants, making it the first student-led EdTech hackathon in the UK.

Format & Rules

Participation Format

A 7-day hybrid innovation sprint with teams of 2–5 members.

  • Open to students and graduates from UK universities
  • Interdisciplinary collaboration strongly encouraged (Education, CS, Engineering, Psychology, Sociology, Arts, Humanities, Design, etc.)
  • Teams may work flexibly throughout the sprint week, with mentor check-ins and support sessions available throughout
  • At least one team member must be physically present in Cambridge on 28 November for Demo Day to be eligible for prizes

Submission Requirements

  • Prototype demo video or accessible link
  • PowerPoint presentation explaining your educational concept and solution

AI Ethics · Cambridge University Press & Assessment

Set by Cambridge University Press & Assessment, this track focuses on the ethical dimensions of AI in educational contexts — exploring how to advance AI-driven education while genuinely safeguarding fairness, transparency, and academic integrity.

AI Oral Assessment · Faculty of Education (Prof. Rupert Wegerif)

Set by Cambridge Faculty of Education advisor Professor Rupert Wegerif, this track explores how AI can enable more effective and equitable oral assessment — moving beyond traditional written examinations to better evaluate language and thinking capabilities.

AI Generated Animation · CurricuLLM (Dan Hart & Team)

Set by CurricuLLM founder Dan Hart and his team, this track explores how AI-generated animation can become a next-generation educational content creation tool — lowering the barrier of production so that both teachers and learners can easily create engaging educational content.

Educational Equality · CU Education Development Trust & JL Venture

Co-set by CU Education Development Trust and JL Venture, this track focuses on educational equity — exploring how technology can close the resource gap and provide more people with access to quality, meaningful learning opportunities.

Participation Details

Prizes & Opportunities

  • Total Prize Pool: £2,000+
  • £400–£500 for each challenge winner
  • Additional £400–£500 for the Grand Champion
  • Invitation to the Cambridge EdTech Charity Gala (February 2026)
  • Internship opportunities and mentorship from partners

Who Can Join?

Open to students and graduates from UK universities across all disciplines:

  • Education, CS, Engineering, Psychology, Sociology, Arts, Humanities, Design, and more
  • Team size: 2–5 members
